Web Survey
It's time again for a survey about our web site. I've just posted a second survey (I posted the results from the first a couple weeks ago). This survey is about setting priorities.
In several meetings I've had about the web redesign I've told people to dream big and worry about reality later. Well, it's later and reality is creeping up on us. Now we need to start getting a sense of what feature requests we've heard need to be a high priority. This information will help guide us through the next phase of the project.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey, and let us know what you think. This survey is intended for both AFSC staff and the wider public to complete, so please share the link with anyone who might be interested in helping us out.

Redesign Requirements Draft
In previous posts I mentioned that we've been working on gathering requirements for AFSC's website. Today I'm posting the first draft of that document here. Please feel free to take some time to review and comment on this draft. This will be the foundation on which we build our web presence, so it's important that we get all the input possible.
How we developed this document:
Over the last few months, the Web Team has been working with staff from all parts of AFSC. We've listened to their concerns, ideas, hopes, fears, and anything else they had to say about what they believe AFSC should be doing on the web. We took all those ideas, mixed in a few of our own, and wrote an outline. Two weeks ago I shared that outline with the advisory group we formed to help us with this process. They offered some more comments and ideas. I then expanded that outline into this document, which the rest of the Web Team reviewed and edited.
I want to thank everyone who has taken part in this process so far. We'll continue to work with our advisory group throughout the summer and fall as we use these requirements, to build a web site that meets them.
Some highlights:
- These requirements stress building a site that is focused on our constituents and providing the tools they would like.
- We need to develop guidelines and policies to encourage a shared understanding of how to use the new web site.
- Staff asked for trainings and chances to share best practices. The Web Team plans to deliver both of those things.
- A large number of staff would like us to support multiple languages, which is now listed as a requirement for the new site.
- We plan to include social networks (like Facebook) as an integral part of our online strategy.
There is still time to participate in this process. We genuinely want to hear from anyone who has ideas. Not all ideas will make it into the final site, but I'd rather have too much feedback than miss something important.
